What started with a group of friends from St Peter's School playing football with cricket stumps and jerseys for posts at Raphael Park, quickly developed into something more organised as interest grew.
The idea to form a club came from John O'Donnell and his son Tommy. A friend of John's, Tony Ward who had a son involved at the time, was a big help in the early days of setting up the teams. To begin with there was a mixture of ages with 4 and 5 year olds enjoying the opportunity to play football and then in the summer of 2001, Raphael Park Rovers Junior Football Club was founded.
Originally the team colours were chosen as the Argentinian shirts (light blue and white stripes) with black shorts but as the delivery was delayed for 6 weeks - and the team needed a kit for a friendly - the black and white shirts were picked up as they were available for the whole team at short notice! This was how the club colours were decided.
Grant Snellin (current U13A Assistant Manager) first became involved as the club continued playing in friendlies at U7s, along with Stuart Glover and Rob McWilliams (current U8A Manager) with the U6 team in the 2001/02 season.
The home pitch for the first league season at U8s was Park Lane, Hornchurch. Subsequent years were played at Marshalls Park School (U9s) and Westlands (U10s). At U11, RPR moved to their current home of Warren School and the home pitch of the Mini-Soccer teams became Harold Wood Primary School.
As of 2008 the club has continued to grow with there now being 7 teams. The club would like to aspire to becoming FA Charter Standard in the coming years.
